I don't think its nonsense. It really doesn't matter to the players because all they want is MONEY. Trading in the nba doesn't occur as much as football.

They know your plays. That could hurt.
It doesn't make sense because you don't want the players you trade for to be shown up by the players you traded away. You make a trade because you feel you are making your team better. If you happen to trade off your point guard, and he torches you for 20 pts 10 assist, and the win, then you as an organization look like a sucker.
